7th Grade Plant Feastival

posted Mar 23, 2017, 2:18 PM by Julia Thompson   [ updated Mar 23, 2017, 2:22 PM ]

On behalf of the middle school staff and seventh grade students, I would like to invite all parents, guardians, siblings, and friends to the 2017 Plant Feastival on Tuesday April 4th from 7:30-8:30 PM in the NVCS Gym.  Join us as our seventh grade class presents important scientific and historic information concerning a single plant's importance and significance, and enjoy a tasty dish made to highlight it in our diets. We all cannot wait to see you there!

A Few Notes About the Feastival (for parents and guardians):
  • Attendance of all seventh graders at the feastival on April 4th is mandatory. Students must report to the gym at 7:00 to set-up their projects and may leave when their project is cleaned up between 8:30-9:00.
  • Due to the amount of support students will be receiving on the preparations for this project in all core classes, no new homework will be assigned until the completion of this project.
  • All work (with the exception of cooking and preparing the dish) is to be completed during core class time. Any outside work completed will result in loss of points.
  • This project will be outlined on Tuesday March 21st and work will begin on Wednesday March 22nd in class, with the Feastival occuring on April 4th.

A Review of the Tardy Policy

posted Jan 23, 2017, 1:11 PM by Jackie Klein   [ updated Jan 24, 2017, 7:26 AM ]

Since we have been back from winter break, we have noticed an increase in the number of student tardies to class. This includes arriving several minutes after class has started and not having all their materials.   Students miss valuable learning opportunities when they are late, or not prepared. We wanted to remind parents of the tardy policy that was listed in the Middle School Handbook.  The policy is as follows:

Tardy Policy

  • 5 Tardies will be a lunch detention

  • 2nd lunch detention will result in parent contact

  • 3rd Lunch detention will cause students to be ineligible

  • Chronic tardiness will result in administrative action

  • Each trimester students will start fresh

Starting next Wednesday, 2/1, we will begin holding lunch detentions for those students who have 5 tardies in the previous week. Students that are required to attend will be given slips on Tuesday that require a parent signature. On Wednesdays, students will get their lunch and report to Mrs. Balster's room for the entire lunch and recess time. If students miss detention, they will be expected to serve it the following Wednesday. We are confident this will remind students of the need to use their passing periods wisely, get to class on time, and have all the materials needed to be successful.
